My first trip to Saipan was to attend my brothers wedding, but I ended up being pretty sick for the majority of the trip. Thankfully years later I found myself living in the wonderful country of Japan and of course had to go back, this time seeing more than just Saipan. My next visit will include Rota and many more of the Northern Mariana Islands. Is there anything better than having a truly local experience when seeing a new place? You can find the Northern Mariana Islands in your history books hosting the bloodiest battle in the Pacific during WWII as well as holding place for the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. When you visit, you can see these powerful glimpses of history, as well as crowd-less beaches and breathtaking nature. Seeing the catastrophic damage of the Typhoon has been heartbreaking.
