Many who visit Rhode Island often plan trips to Newport or Providence (which are places I do highly recommend), but there are so many small Rhode Island towns full of New England charm that are worth a visit. Five Small Rhode Island Towns Westerly/Watch Hill A town that has somehow remained under the radar even with Taylor Swift purchasing a mansion on the water. My mom and I always joke that she should let us use her house when she isn’t there…I mean, why leave it empty? Downtown Westerly is growing into the most darling town with new businesses popping up and adding one of my favorites, knead doughnuts. After getting coffee or lunch (Cinder Restaurant and Grey Sail Tap Room/Brewing Company are on my list for next time) head to Watch Hill to soak up sometime near the water. Once parked in Watch Hill, I recommend walking along the water lined street with little shops and then head up to Ocean House for drinks and appetizers – all walkable once you park! In the summer the Hydrangeas are blooming and it is a beautiful quaint summer destination if you find yourself in Rhode Island during the warmer months. […]

Every summer tourists from all over pour into the many coastal and city hot spots of the Ocean State yet it still keeps it’s same natural beauty and slow moving atmosphere. The tacky environment that can appear for summer getaways, rarely exist during a Rhode Island Summer. Although it may be the smallest state in the USA, it is the perfect location for a getaway when the weather warms up. With delicious seafood and a beautiful coastline, the options of summer activities are endless. Hop on a ferry, sail on the Atlantic or eat some clam cakes on the sand. Soak in a state that strives for all things local and start planning your ultimate Rhode Island summer vacation. The Rhode Island Summer Bucket List 1 / Drink a Dels A Rhode Island Summer doesn’t officially begin until you take a sip of a Dels Lemonade. Any Rhode Island native knows to savor every last drop of the iced lemonade goodness. Although other flavors exist, original lemon is the only one I order. After all, it’s tradition. It can only be found here, and for that reason – a novelty one must indulge in! 2/ Moped along Block […]

Bagels and donuts, is there anything better? They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day but I ALWAYS get something smaller, or a bagel to go (unless brunch is involved). Providence is growing in leaps in bounds when it comes to all things food and coffee. No longer in Boston’s shadow PVD is gaining some serious rep. KNEAD Doughnuts For all your glazed, chocolate and beyond needs, this place is gorgeous on the inside and you do-nut what to miss it…;) Ok that will be my ONLY donut joke but with how delicious these donuts are, you can’t go wrong. It is located right downtown, so very accessible.

Newport, Rhode Island is a huge hot spot for tourists in the summer but as locals, we love Newport in the winter where the parking is free, and the streets aren’t filled! During the fall, the colors are still beautiful and if you are visiting during the holiday there are so many activities to get you in the holiday spirit! Being home the last 2 months I have really enjoyed exploring more and more of Newport in the winter. Especially a place that means so much to me! While you are there, be sure to visit the quiet and quaint town of Jamestown, Rhode Island in the winter as well – you usually stop by before Newport anyways 😉 I always encourage getting lost when seeing a new place, but to get you started, below is my list for what to see, do and most importantly eat if you are there in the off-season! (P.S. I started with coffee, because you may want to grab a cup to go before venturing outside). A guide to Newport in the winter Coffee in Newport 1/ Stoneacre Brasserie. This place is new in Newport AND my new favorite. They serve breakfast all the […]

Oh Jamestown, Rhode Island. I lived the first 18 years of my life not too far from here, and being back home has given me the opportunity to fall in love with the island all over again! Located on Conanicut Island in the Narragansett Bay, Jamestown is often underrated and overshadowed by it’s neighboring town of Newport. I think it is time this small town receives some recognition. Off season you will see less crowds, with views just as beautiful in the summer. Are you visiting Jamestown in the winter and wondering what you can do? Glad you asked, because I have you covered. Beavertail State Park Simply take in the view (and if you’re like me gush over how amazing lighthouses are). The whole park is great to see the coast, and people fishing along the rocks. There is also a small museum, and opportunities to climb the lighthouse! For museum hours and more info you can visit their website here. Stroll the main street with shops and restaurants With only one small main street in Jamestown, RI you can take all the time you need to stroll, eat and shop! During the holidays it is beautifully […]
