Oh Jamestown, Rhode Island. I lived the first 18 years of my life not too far from here, and being back home has given me the opportunity to fall in love with the island all over again! Located on Conanicut Island in the Narragansett Bay, Jamestown is often underrated and overshadowed by it’s neighboring town of Newport. I think it is time this small town receives some recognition. Off season you will see less crowds, with views just as beautiful in the summer. Are you visiting Jamestown in the winter and wondering what you can do? Glad you asked, because I have you covered. Beavertail State Park Simply take in the view (and if you’re like me gush over how amazing lighthouses are). The whole park is great to see the coast, and people fishing along the rocks. There is also a small museum, and opportunities to climb the lighthouse! For museum hours and more info you can visit their website here. Stroll the main street with shops and restaurants With only one small main street in Jamestown, RI you can take all the time you need to stroll, eat and shop! During the holidays it is beautifully […]

When finding a beautiful coffee shop, there are a few requirements. Natural lighting, aesthetically pleasing and of course great coffee. I know there are places all around the world that contribute to some pretty amazing cafes, but Tokyo most definitely makes the list and is creating serious competition in the coffee world. From creative latte art, to BEAUTIFUL design and the added touch of the Japanese craftsmanship and hard work, you will be fully caffeinated and a create a happy camera roll. This list of the top Instagram worthy coffee shops in Tokyo will grow, and there will be more coffee cups to drink, and more interiors to explore! Counterpart Coffee Gallery Has a coffee shop ever made you nonstop swoon, because I guarantee this one will. This place is three stories high and brings you plenty of natural light. It also is the best place to get work done. A newer coffee shop on the Tokyo block, the top floor holds vintage couches and the second floor will welcome you will wooden seats looking out to the streets below. The coffee is just as good as the decor, as well as their small food menu. If you […]

Any sort of student filled, artist loving, unique and lively neighborhood usually always catches my eye no matter where I travel (Wicker Park in Chicago is a special one I have in mind). With that said, Newtown is the most hipster, vegan friendly, whole foods loving, granola place I have every been – and that is not an insult! If you love good food, exposed brick in your cafes with unique light fixtures and hanging plants and street art – I think it is time you head down under. So, let’s get down to business. If the few reasons I gave above do not appeal to you, by all means read no further! Just kidding, you should 100% read further as I explain my top three reasons why you should visit Newtown. Food & Coffee Spaces As I was walking along the streets of this neighborhood, I was surprised by how large the area was and how many food options there were! Taking a break from all things sushi and ramen I wanted to eat at every place I saw just so I could review it but, that would have been impossible. Like I have said before, I let […]

If you are in Japan for an extended amount of time, I hope Hakone makes it on your list! Ultimately I am a city girl, but a night in this resort town will always be welcomed especially since Hakone from Tokyo is very doable. As many others before me have said, you CAN do it in a day but since Hakone is known for their amazing hot springs, I suggest staying one night. The trip is truly relaxing, and the views will be even better than you imagined. So let’s get started with some helpful tips to plan your getaway. Hakone from Toyko (Hakone Pass) First, head to Odawara station where you will buy your Hakone passes (look for one of the customer service windows, they are pretty easy to find)! If you do the entire Hakone loop without a pass it is 6300 yen, while the pass is 4500 yen. Every bus, train, cable car etc. is included as well as discounts for some attractions (like the open air museum). Where to stay For the full experience I recommend staying in a traditional ryokan. We stayed at the Aura Tachiban Ryokan in a traditional Japanese room. Who knew sleeping on the […]
