The city of Jacksonville, FL is one that often flies under the radar with hip establishments to grab a few cocktails, a flourishing street art scene and all the potential to keep growing. Although it may be overshadowed by the bigger cities of Tampa, Orlando and Miami – the Bold City has so much to offer, especially downtown Jacksonville, FL. If you are looking for dinner spots with city scapes, vintage bookshops and rooftop hangs after a baseball game – you will love exploring the city. If you have been following me for awhile, you know I always sing the praises of our small city hub. Even though I have written about things to do in downtown Jacksonville, and explored the street art scene with you, I thought it was time for a guide. One that is filled with the places we love to eat, where to go for happy hour and to shout out all there is to admire about the heart of Jax. Where to stay in downtown Jacksonville Downtown Jacksonville is slowly but surely seeing tons of growth and although many residents don’t live in the city center currently, that will change in the coming years.

To plan a trip to Jacksonville often means numerous trips to the beach, soaking in the sun, and some water sports. Even locals don’t think of downtown as a destination by any means. As a new Jacksonville resident, I love spending time in the city. When planning a trip to downtown Jacksonville, there are many unique locations to add to your list. Seeing as this part of the city is not filled with tourists, many of the things to do in downtown Jacksonville are all one of a kind. Street art, rooftop happy hours, unique shops all resting a block from the St. Johns River. You may not think that Jacksonville will fuel your hunger for eclectic city vibes, but I would be prepared to be surprised (at least I was). Things to do in downtown Jacksonville Downtown Jacksonville library Avid reader or not, the downtown Jacksonville Library is stunning (on the inside and out). The building located across Hemming Park, has multiple levels filled to the brim with books and resources (check out the map room, too). You can explore the balcony looking over the courtyard (with a fountain and all) while taking in the city views. Although […]

For those have been following me for awhile you know I love downtown Jax. I love receiving messages from people saying they explored the city of Jax using my blog post. I will say it again and again but exploring your backyard is always doable especially in the sprawling city of Jacksonville. Although the city of Jax is not bumpin’ at 9PM, there are still a few spots for a romantic night or just a change of scenery on your Friday after work. This Jax date series is all about short and sweet ideas for the perfect afternoon or evening. Jax Date Series: Downtown (cruising through the alley) Dinner at BellWether Bellwether is a restaurant serving elevated southern food, and located in the heart of downtown. Outside seating, creative menu and Cheesecake Rangoon (need I say more). One of the first places my husband and I had a date night was here. A sister restaurant to Orsay and Black Sheep, Bellwether is the perfect spot to enjoy a nice dinner in the city. Rooftop drinks at Cowford Chophouse I love a nice rooftop for happy hour or pre/post dinner drinks because you really feel like you are in a […]

Many people travel to Florida each year, but few probably think about Jacksonville. Not that the Bold City doesn’t deserve the visitors, but people flock to the beaches of the Gulf, the vibrant city of Miami and yearn for the heat of southern Florida. Before I even set foot in the this Northern Florida city I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect – Jacksonville Street Art was no where on my radar. What is Jacksonville known for? Do they have any sort of city vibe? As someone who craves an eclectic atmosphere when I travel or live in a new city I was hesitant on what Jacksonville would provide for me. I knew the climate was warm, there were beaches and that the city is sprawling due to the fact that it is the largest city in size in the United States. Craft coffee spots, community driven growing neighborhoods and street art were not exactly my expectations, but that is exactly what met me. Driving down W Forsyth St. I was surprised by every corner that revealed a gorgeous wall mural.
