The Peach State offers so much more than humidity and a great aquarium. The Barrier Islands or Golden Isles, are an amazing travel destination and I can’t believe they are accessible in such a short time from Jacksonville. Day trip or weekend, enjoying the islands is very convenient. Jekyll Island makes for a wonderful escape, and these five experiences will make your weekend or day trip so enjoyable! There was a small part of us that wanted to add St. Simons Island as a part of our trip, but I am glad we strictly stayed put on Jekyll Island. St. Simons I assume deserves it’s own weekend. Where to stay We personally enjoyed staying at the Westin Jekyll Island. On the ocean side of the island, they have bike rentals, a pool and other wonderful facilities.
