Little glimpses of Kamakura: Day trip

This sweet little city really took me for a surprise. I didn’t think it would be as small and quaint (but we also stayed on the main street, and did not explore the temples). Japan is such a hard country to see in a small amount of time because there are so many places big and small to see! Tokyo itself you need more than a week! See my post about some neighborhoods in Tokyo I enjoyed here.

Of course the number one thing people want to see is the big Buddha! Although it is not the biggest in Japan it is still pretty cool to see, and you still feel small 🙂

We only spent a few hours here, so if you were on a time crunch, a morning here and then dinner in Enoshima is always possible! Enoshima blog post is on my list 😉

Kamakura is perfect for tiny shops, window browsing, and if you are on the hunt for the perfect piece of pottery (I non stop talked about how I needed to get a tea kettle) – this is the place! I unfortunately caved before this trip and got one at a more touristy shop in Kyoto, but the vibe seemed more local here (although articles say it is a pretty touristy place).

Food:

I am not as big of a foodie as I should be, and we only wanted something small to hold us over but you NEED to eat at Kebab Kamakura. The man who served us was so friendly and from Morocco – according to yelp reviews he was there because he married someone from Japan. Glad he did because the sauces there are UN.REAL! Check them out on Trip Advisor.

And see for yourself:

Attire:

I did the least amount of walking this day, but like many places you travel comfy shoes are always a good idea (sandals in the summer, boots in the winter)! Remember you are by the water. Always bring a sweater and a I carried a little backpack every where I went since it was the most comfortable!

If you do get to explore Kamakura check out so many more things to do around there with this Japan guide.

Next Japan trip I need to take my professional camera but I hope you still got a good feel of our relaxing day here! Anyone else have any tips on this city? I am sure I will be back!
