If you follow me on Instagram, you know we have made visiting Jekyll Island an annual tradition. Although I have written about five experiences to have on Jekyll Island, I thought I would put together some ideas for visiting Jekyll Island with a toddler.

One of the Golden Isles, it can be enjoyed in every season. We often head there in the winter, and you all know I love destinations in the off-season. Especially in the south, because you never know what surprise nice weather you could receive.

Where to stay on Jekyll Island with a toddler

If you are staying with kids, I highly recommend the Home 2 Suites by Hilton. We have stayed their two years in a row, and the suite set-up with a small kitchen is ideal for families. You are close enough to walk to the beach and your stay may be more affordable, as well. You are able to cook, store groceries and have a separate room from when your little one is sleeping.

The Westin on the island we have stayed at twice – once with kids, and once with two babes! We got the suite, because we like having that extra room for when the kids are asleep, as mentioned above. Although it may be a bit more pricy, you can have an ocean view from your balcony while the kids nap.

Where to eat on Jekyll Island with a toddler

Most places we have eaten were fine with us having a kid in tow. Here are a few places for kid friendly spots or ideas:

Tortuga Jacks – A Mexican spot that is very accommodating to children (we love sitting outside)! They have a kids menu and even can make them a virgin Strawberry daquary with whip cream. We love to walk here from our hotel (it’s a gorgeous pathway).

The Wharf – One of our favorites. The food is great, as well as their drink menu and more importantly, they have a kids menu. This is the ultimate adult/kid win-win. I love the ambience on the inter-coastal for us, but we don’t feel out of place bringing our toddler.

Red Bug Motor’s Pizza – Situated nearby to Miniature golf, this is where we go when we want to order to-go and bring it back to our room! Sometimes traveling with a toddler means taking things slow, and not always eating at a sit down restaurant.

The Pantry – Located in The Jekyll Island Resort, this small cafe is great for coffee, or something little for breakfast in the morning. There are seats outside and the property is a staple and classic on the island (not to mention picturesque).

Sunrise Grille – This is one place on this list I have not been, but could be a more sit and enjoy breakfast type of place if you want more than a hotel lobby options.

The Westin Cafe – Staying at the Westin, this would be our choice for a light breakfast, but it is a great location if you are on your way to the beach, regardless of your hotel choice.

What to do on Jekyll Island with a toddler

Jekyll Island is SO wonderful for kids in every season. The warmer months have many water-fun activities and the winter holiday spirit brings fun events for kids.

Jekyll Island Miniature Golf – Two 18-hole courses and a family-friendly outing. Children 5 and under are free with a paying adult (adults are $7 and ages 6-10 are $5.50).

Bike the island – If you have older kids, biking through the island is so wonderful! We did this prior to having little ones with us and we rented from Beachside Bike Rentals. Your hotel may have rentals as well.

Driftwood Beach – The ultimate nature’s playground. This is a must for everyone to visit.

Georgia Sea Turtle Center – For your animal loving toddler! There are interactive stations inside, a window into the hospital and you can see many sea turtles in tanks as well. If you are interested in the museum on the island, make sure to buy a ticket package for both of these places for a better deal at the museum to save money.

Summer Waves Water Park – If you are heading to the island in the summer this looks ideal for the heat! We have yet to go, but they have a lazy river, fun slides and a splash pad. Seems great for all ages.

Beach Walks – This is a given, but regardless of when you visit, the beach is absolutely stunning with many walkways to the ocean. Beautiful shells, clean beaches and a lovely walking trail all coexist on the island.

Holly Jolly Jekyll – During the holidays (starting in November) is a wonderful and festive time to visit Jekyll Island! Full of light displays that are all throughout the island that you can see from your car during a self guided tour.
