5 ways to embrace a Florida Fall

Most of my life has consisted of four seasons which means I have had the honor of living in beautiful crisp Autumn weather. My facebook memories remind me of when I was apple picking as I eagerly wait a trip up north. I learned last year not to put pumpkins out too early (they rot before Halloween) and we now understand why our neighbors had fake jack-o-lanterns. Finding a local farm or a Fall candle you love makes the warm weather feel a little more like seasons are changing.

I am now prepared as I head into another humid Fall, yet still plan to celebrate to the fullest. I can’t let my favorite season go by without soaking in the moments – even if I am soaking in sweat.

5 ways to embrace a Florida Fall

1/ Have coffee in the early morning (outside)

This may be veryyy specific but Florida has this weird Fall tradition of being pretty cool in the morning and then reaching 80 or 90 in the afternoon. Try and spend time outside; a walk, run, or time on your porch. Of course, bring some hot tea of coffee while the weather cooperates.

2/ Find Fall activities

This may be visiting a local pumpkin patch, attending an Octoberfest at your neighborhood brewery or having people over for a Fall inspired cocktail/mocktail night or pumpkin carving. On one of the first cool Saturdays last year we headed to Congaree and Penn for a farm tour, their homemade hard cider and pumpkins. We are heading back this weekend and I can’t wait! Planning a weekend getaway or (for me) a trip back home is an excellent way to experience Fall as well.

3/ Try Fall specials at coffee shops

Coffee shops may have more than just pumpkin spice lattes. Last year I had a hazelnut latte with cinnamon and an Apple Pie Cortado at some Jacksonville local coffee shops. Cozying up at a coffee shop and ordering Autumn in a cup is the perfect way to ring in the humid season during Florida Fall.

4/ Fall flavors, Fall scents

Candles, the whole Trader Joe’s store – have no shame. In fact, Trader Joe’s now has candles so…they have successfully become a one stop shop for Fall. Full disclosure, I didn’t love the scent of the candles, but just purchased a Pumpkin Spice face mask from them and can’t stop eating their Pumpkin Jo Jos. I also bought a Sandalwood Rose candle to last through the season. Staying cozy thanks to Air Conditioning, hot drinks and rainy days.

5/ Home Decor

Of course, decorating is another great way to embrace Fall in Florida.  Dried flowers, straw and pumpkins – all make for the perfect Autumn scene. What is your favorite way to decorate for Fall? Our pumpkins will be inside until the humidity passes 😉

Feeling Thankful

I often think of Fall as a new beginning instead of the new year. New Years is actually in fact, my least favorite holiday so I like that this season feels like a new beginning. To me, there is no better feeling when Fall approaches, to set a tone of starting fresh, making changes or simply feeling thankful. On the contrary, my favorite season of Thanksgiving has so many Fall traditions I love and reminds me to be thankful in all things. That never changes no what zip code you reside in!

If you live in Florida (or a warmer area) how do you embrace the season?

Love always,

Katherine
