A Guide to a Slow Weekend in Savannah, GA

The first time I visited Savannah, we were able to see, eat and do so much. Brunch at Collins Quarter, Stroll around Forysnth park and we tried to squeeze in delicious dinners, drinks and coffee spots. When we returned for only one night, I felt less eager to do everything (due to time restraints) but also wanted slower mornings and one fantastic dinner.

When seeing Savannah, especially for the first time, it is understandable to hope and accomplish all the sights and tastes you wish. If you are looking for a more relaxed way to see the city I hope this is helpful. Feel free to visit my post, a quick guide to a weekend in Savannah (for first-timers), that has more recommendations.

Where to stay for a slow weekend in Savannah

Choosing the hotel for a relaxing weekend is key (in my opinion) to enjoying a city. One that has an amazing dining option, rooftop drinks or the perfect spot for morning coffee that feels like home, is ideal. Thankfully, Savannah has amazing hotels full of design and character.

Perry Lane Hotel

A stunning choice with a view of the steepled skyline on their rooftop bar (Peregrin), as well as a rooftop pool. The rooms are spacious and equally gorgeous. Our stay at the Perry Lane Hotel was a wonderful focal point on our first trip there.

The Drayton Hotel

Another perfectly designed hotel – smaller, more intimate and no pool – but a beautiful rooftop and darling cafe in their lobby. Every corner of this place is beautiful.

The Alida Hotel

Although I haven’t stayed here, this would be the next hotel experience on my list. The large pool, individually designed rooms and (you guessed it) another rooftop bar, this time with river views.

Where to enjoy a rooftop drink

Cities like Charlestown and Savannah lend itself to historic city views of steeples, the gorgeous City Hall and of the river. There are a few wonderful places to sip sparkling wine to take it all in. Choose one before dinner at sunset.

The Peregrin – Panoramic views of the city, with a menu of crafted cocktails or indulge in their daily frozen cocktail.

The rooftop at the Drayton Hotel – With a gorgeous inside bar, and the perfect view of City Hall, this is a wonderful and intimate spot to enjoy happy hour.

Rocks on the River or The Lost Square – If you are in favor of river views, these two are great options (and are on my list for the next time we visit).

Where to eat during a slow weekend in Savannah

A wonderful array of restaurants are available to you in this southern city. I hope to keep visiting for all the craft cocktails and dinners that I am determined to taste during slow weekend in Savannah. During your visit, save one night for somewhere special (and make reservations).

Husk Savannah – Personally, I would put this high on your list. Although pricey, you will find the menu unique, service and presentation impeccable. They have a wonderful drink menu to top it all off (well, and dessert).

The Olde Pink House – A classic establishment to the city where can have dinner and drinks inside the only 18th century mansion.

Cotton & Rye – Wonderful dinner with an outdoor patio and great cocktails. They are known for their award winning chicken chicken wings.

The Grey – This place is a top on my list for ambiance, and we indulged in their happy hour menu – a great spot before dinner or make it your main course. Like many places in Savannah, I recommend making a reservation for dinner or visit for happy hour, first come first served.

Where to sip coffee and enjoy breakfast

There a few great places to have coffee in Savannah, and hopefully my guide to Savannah coffee shops will help jumpstart your day. Personally, I would sip on a latte at my hotel’s cafe one morning, and venture out to another spot the next.

The Collins Quarter – I feel inclined to put The Collins Quarter on this list because it has become a Savannah must and is delicious (as well as aesthetically pleasing). Make sure to make reservations.

Rocks on the River (at the Bohemian Hotel) – We opted for brunch here, and if weather permits, sit outside across from the river and order.

Mirabelle Savannah – An adorable spot I have on my list for next time, so we can indulge in Liège waffles set in a vintage 1800’s building. If you wish to stay in an airbnb, they have suits in this building as well, you can find on their website.

Dessert and after dinner drink

Jen and Friends – Dessert and a drink in one, this dessert martini bar has a really fun and delicious menu. I got the birthday cake martini – complete with a candle to make a wish.

Leopold’s Ice Cream – Award winning homemade ice cream on East Broughton St.

Lulu’s Chocolate Bar – This was recommended by our table neighbors at Husk, and we can’t wait to return to Savannah and try it ourselves!

What to do during a slow weekend in Savannah

The best part of a weekend away with little on the your agenda, is you can be as busy as you would like. Savannah has old trolley tours, riverboat cruises and more – that are a perfect way to learn about the history of the city. Personally, taking in the century old buildings, sitting along the river or perhaps visiting a museum makes for the perfect relaxing stay.

Forysth Park – If you are new to visiting this part of the country, you will love the weeping willows, and beautiful nature in this park. Take a stroll or bring a picnic.

West River Street – After breakfast, grab a coffee at Coffee Fox and walk along the water to take in the water view or book a river cruise.

Georgia Tasting Room – Cozy wine tasting environment where you can also can grab a wine slushy to go because, Savannah.

American Prohibition Museum – Take a short visit to this museum and learn about this period of history complete with a speakeasy at the end. The museum is close by to the tasting room mentioned above as well.

Walk along Broughton street – The perfect place to pop to peruse in the afternoon. Hop into thrift shops, get lost in The Paris Market and taste samples at Savannah Bee Company. There are numerous establishments along this Savannah hub.
