Coffee in Tokyo, who knew you were so wonderful? Not only are the cafes spot on with aesthetically pleasing interiors, dreamy espresso and delicious coffee, they have a few adorable Tokyo coffee stands that you must visit the next (or first) time you are on the go in Tokyo. From busy Shibuya, to quiet streets outside of Shimokitazawa, hopefully you find this post helpful when looking for “the spot” to grab you coffee.

It also needs to be mentioned, that although these stops are perfect for “on the go” the owners of these places have been incredibly friendly, and I could talk in my poor Japanese/some English for a long time. When seeing Japan there will be TONS on your list, so it doesn’t hurt to know a few spots that are quick and accessibly right?

Tokyo Coffee Stands

About Life Coffee Roasters

About Life Coffee Brewers Tokyo coffee stands

Two things make this at the top of my list – location (hello a short walk from the heart of Shibuya) and how tasty their coffee is. This would be a great place for the morning before your busy day of walking, taking trains or wherever you go! A very well known spot, because of their mastery coffee skills and talented baristas. The concept of this little stand was created by the owner of Onibus (mentioned below) was to create a place that serves multiple roasters giving people a diverse selection of coffee.

Iron Coffee

If you need two cups of coffee in the morning head to Iron Coffee, where your second drink will be discounted by 100 yen (about a dollar), so double your caffeine here. Their beans hail from Single O Japan, and is pretty divine. Set in a low key, quiet street I see the the owner knows the locals and usuals that hit this spot. Although not sent in a trendy neighborhood (outskirts of Shimokitazawa) this place needs some recognition and I hope I can make “regular” status here.

Onibus Coffee

Onibus is a roaster that is making quite a name for themselves in Tokyo. You can find their coffee in the beautiful cafe of Ratio, as well as About Life mentioned above. The design and the coffee is impeccable, and so popular the roaster opened this stand set nice and smug in the Naka-Meguro district, where you will find plenty to do in this trendy neighborhood. Seating outside and an indoor area upstairs, there is plenty of room to relax and enjoy their menu.

6/ Little Nap Coffee Stand

Resting on the outside of Yoyogi Park, Little Nap Coffee Stand sits on a quiet street, with bikers often passing by and little commotion. Small seating on the inside and a few spots outside, this place is the perfect blend of “take away” or to sit and read. The inside is quaint, with a record player accompanied by of course, music. Their lattes are on the lighter side, and have a smooth finish. My cup was followed by a walk through the park to start my day in Harajuku.

On the way Coffee & Cupcakes

On the Way Tokyo coffee stands

A small shop with a passion for serving the neighborhood of Shimokitaxawa, serves both cupcakes and coffee (hence the name)! Shingo Fukuda’s little business may be away from the hub of the neighborhood, but it is a must to get there early for the mini cupcakes as they sell out fast! No matter where you are on going, whether to work, or shopping or just exploring it is the perfect place to get your honey soy latte.

Urban Local Living

With home depot products hanging on the wall and surfing videos playing, you will instantly see his love for DIY projects, Hawaii, California and of course, coffee. Situated in the heart of Shimokitazawa, he loves when people from all over the world pay him a visit and chat over coffee. You will most likely end up on their instagram page as well. Tokyo coffee stands that serves both tools and DIY products as well as coffee? Only in Japan.

Camelback Sandwich & Espresso

Both espresso and speciality sandwiches all in one this place this place shows the work ethic and craft of a Japanese business. Try the classic and simple Prosiciutto and Ooba Leaf sandwich, Chai tea, coffee, drool worthy sandiwches all live here. The classic wooden benches outside on a quiet street makes the perfect “escape from the busy city” vibe, with only being a stone throw away from Shibuya crossing.

Sidewalk Stand

Other Tokyo coffee stands on my list are Higuma Doughnuts (perfect with your morning coffee) that hails from Hokkaido and Be a Good neighbor Coffee Koisk.

Had no idea a coffees scene existed in Tokyo. This is good to know (I have several friends on the coffee industry). I think I will check Onibus first.

I had no idea Tokyo had such hipster/cool coffee places! I’d only ever seen snapshots of the crazy over-the-top theme places hahah. This post makes me want to go even more. PS is that matcha soft serve or frosting in that one pic in “One the Way”? I’m dying. *drool*

Yes the specialty coffee scene is real here! If my memory is right, it wasn’t matcha but that would have been pretty great. Hope you can make it to Tokyo sometime 🙂

This seriously makes me wish I was a coffee drinker. Ha! I mean, don’t get me wrong. I’m not a total weirdo – I do drink coffee every now and then, but I’m definitely more of a green or black tea kind of girl. Would totally make an exception in Tokyo now, though!

I’m so keen to visit Tokyo! I’d not thought of it as a coffee spot – always assumed it was all tea! But I know exactly where to go for my caffeine fix now 🙂

What was your favourite part of Japan?
