After spending some time on Jekyll Island, we knew we had to spend a weekend on St. Simons Island as well. The island consists of great shops for tourists and locals, delicious places to eat and Golden Isle views. I have been so surprised by the day trips we have been able to experience. Before moving to Jacksonville, I had no idea how beautiful the coast of Georgia is and how lucky we are to have immediate access to it.

Although this island has its fair share of seasonal tourists, full and part-time residents alike enjoy this island as well. We visited during the off-season (January) and loved the laid-back, cozy vibe. I hope to return in the summer to take full advantage of the beaches and resorts.

Where to stay during a weekend on St. Simons Island

We decided to stay at the Village Inn & Pub due the quaint feel and location to downtown but other options that seemed great were Sea Island Inn and The King & Prince Beach & Golf Resort. If we returned for the summer months I would stay at a place on the water.

Where to eat and grab a drink during a weekend on St. Simons Island

  • Southern Soul BBQ – Delicious BBQ with the majority of the seating outside (come hungry)!
  • Echo – Beautiful ocean views for brunch (inside the King and Prince Resort).
  • Georgia Sea Grill – Fine seafood dining, amazing staff and the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, or to treat yourself on vacation.
  • Sandy Bottom Bagels – Cozy breakfast spot to hang for awhile or take to go.
  • Palmer’s Village Cafe – Loved this spot for lunch and would return for Brunch on our next trip!
  • Ember – Creative menu and house-infused cocktails with a cool decor vibe and large pizza oven.

What to do during a weekend on St. Simons Island

  • St. Simons Lighthouse – A short walk along the water from downtown, you can view the museum then climb to the top for a stellar view. Adults are $12, kids (6-12) are $6 and they have $2 off for military.
  • Fort Federica National Monument – Step back in time and learn about the history of the island.
  • Street Shopping – Walk along the main street and stop into the many charming coastal shops on your way to the pier.
  • St. Simons Sweet Shop – Visit this sweet spot for candy, fudge or ice cream.
  • Beaches – Walk along the beaches in the cooler weather or make it a beach day and pack a picnic in the warmer months.
  • Saint Simons Tea Company – Smell, shop and purchase some tea from their wide variety (they can brew a cup to go for you as well).
  • Golf – Check out the many golf courses St. Simons has to offer (even mini golf downtown).
  • Visit Jekyll Island – Close by is another beautiful space in the Gold Isles and you could easily go for the day or spend a few hours biking around and grabbing some lunch.
